Save early and Save often
"I have been a computer enthusiast for years. Although my husband is the expert, I am well versed in the ways of machines and I have a mantra: “Save early and Save often”. It is a mantra born from years of experience and numerous dealings with these machines that we depend on for all but our very existence! My computer is my friend. HOWEVER, having said that, I still fell prey to the very ignorance I have often scorned in others... I did not save my document - I didn't save it once and that was the one time when the local stormy weather took out the power in my neighborhood.
I was working freelance at the time, doing some data entry on a job that was both tedious and time consuming. (The who, what, where, when & how much of the local elementary school's cookie dough sales) Logging in online to enter the particulars was quite a headache! When the power returned, I was unable to reclaim the information, despite the “restore a previous session?” question on my screen. Consequently, I was up half the night to fulfill my obligations by the dreaded deadline. Now I am back to the mantra, and I have learned a valuable lesson. I spread the word far and wide! I am currently working on a new mantra that revolves around the word “backup”!"
