"In grad school I was writing a huge thesis paper on the Molecular Structure of Recumbant DNA. It was a massive undertaking with hours of research, hundreds of references, and my master's degree on the line. I had the paper saved on my laptop so I could take it to class and the library with me. While I was sleeping, my cat jumped on the table where my laptop was and knocked over a glass of soda. It fried my laptop. I just about had a heart attack when I realized my paper was on there, but luckily I had burned a copy to a CD for my friend to review for me. It wasn't as updated as the copy on my laptop, but it was still better than starting all over. I always backup anything important as soon as I get finished now!"
